Vigil follow up

Well, it rained and rained and rained and rained.

There were still a few people that braved the weather to see if the event was still on.

Thank you for supporting the kitties through rain and floods, maybe next year the weather will be better ^ ^

Glowstick Vigil - International Homeless Animals' Day

I love my office job, and being a veteran has its benefits, like nap privileges after dealing with all the paperwork.

This Saturday the adoption center will be having an open house followed by a vigil for International Homeless Animals' Day.

I'm lucky to be here and I know it, but I see the sad looks the humans get when they have to answer call after call about cats and kittens that have no other place to go.

At 7:00 pm we will be having an open house where you can tour the adoption center, play and cuddle with all the great cats and kittens we were able to save, and get to meet me! :)

Then when it gets dark, around 8:00 pm we'll all move out to the front (well, I'll stay inside and supervise from the windows) to hold our vigil for all the kitties that are out there, hoping for a chance, and for all the great human people that are trying to make a difference.

In case you don't know, we are on Atlantic Blvd, west of 441 by a few blocks. The building actually says Cat Adoptions.

6350 West Atlantic Blvd
Margate, FL 33063

Edit: I totally forgot to mention the date! Its August 15, this Saturday. And I know some of you are far far away, if you commemorate the day in your own way, I'd love to hear about it. :)

New Staff

I admit, its been a while, what can I say, I was enjoying my time on the towel.

Some of you may remember, they put me on diet food. I have not actually lost any weight, but its not my fault! We have a few new staff members, and they keep eating my portion, so they have to just put a bunch out and well...you know how it goes. Let me introduce them to you:

There's the new secretary, Audi.

She loves her job, especially papers and pens and keyboards and telephones. Some would say she works a little too hard. The humans often worry she's over doing it when she tries to help them, you know, by pushing the keys for them, or complimenting their hand writing by rubbing the pens as they write, and they often have to force her to take some time off in the adoption area.

In the Adoption Reception is Nicky, Unofficial Office Cat.

He's unofficial, simply because, like Audi he, is still up for adoption. He's a good guy, and he stays on his side...like he should. He's super friendly with the humans and loves laps, and to be held, great with little kids. Him and Audi are both chatter boxes, and prefer the company of people to cats, no fighting with fellow cats or anything so dramatic, they just like people :)

Normally, I would think such fine workers would find no problems getting a new assignment working from home. But the economy has been really hard, even on us. Finding those working from home positions went from being hard to get to nearly impossible to get for the adult population of our center.

The humans here are trying to help us, and putting together an event that brings together no-kill, not for profits from Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach county. Most people don't even know we exist! Its the first time they're putting this kind of thing together, so they thought they'd start with cats and small animals. I hear there are going to be ferrets and guinea pigs, too, I guess they need love, too. :) You can see more info http://www.catsexclusive.org/sflanokilladoptionfair.html

Its going to be at the War Memorial Auditorium, in Ft. Lauderdale, June 20, 9AM-6PM.

There's a lot of work to be done, time to get off the towel...at least for a little while :)

A new look

I'll be sporting a someone slightly took a bite out of me look for a bit until my fur grows back in. No, no one bit me, its just shaved and looks funny. A few days ago I volunteered to be a blood donor to a kitty who lost quite a bit, unfortunately despite everyone's efforts she didn't make it past midnight that same night.

It was a bit scary but I was very brave for Lakeside's sake.

On a side note, we actually have two of her kids from a past litter up for adoption at the center, Sunny Boy and Sparky, who are a little bit shy, having been outdoor kitties for a bit, but sugary sweet once they feel comfortable.

I was able to help her out as much as I did, only because it was an emergency. My blood's not as good as it could be, I want to be able to help more kitties, but I have too much fatty stuffs inside my blood. So they're making me eat this diet type food, which is o.k. , Maddie was right, its not so bad. For those of you who don't know her, she's the kitty here who always gets asked if she's pregnant. She's worked hard and eats right and has lost about 2 lbs since January, which is a pretty big deal, and is now a solid 15lbs.

I'm looking forward to being a healthier mancat, but I wonder if I'm going to lose my mannish figure.

Hero to Catnip Everywhere!

I found some catnip trapped by an evil plastic bag buried in a dark scary drawer! It was terrified and lonely so I set it free!

Well, that's what I told the clinic manager when she found me....

I think she bought it, I'm taking the rest of the day off to enj- recuperate from my heroic deed.

Another Tired Thursday

As I wind down another day, a funny realization hits me. Of the cats that have ear notches and are up for adoption, all but one are black and white, and the one that isn't, is gray and white. So that's almost like black and white, like...dilute black and white.

There's Marc:

and Stretch:

and Montey:

and the back of Mollie's head, because her notch doesn't show up really well from the front:
